Amazing Emu Egg™ Designed for Egg Cavers
This is an Emu egg reproduction molded off a real emu egg made specifically for egg carvers. We started by finding a very nice Emu egg. Then we created a 2-piece mold using industrial silicone capable of reproducing the finest details. We were amazed that the molding result captured every minute detail. (See photo enlargement showing texture.) Now the fun part – we placed the mold on a rotational casting machine and charged the mold with 3 ounces of pristine white polyurethane resin. The end result was an amazing hollow resin Emu egg.
The resin used for the Emu egg is the same museum quality resin used for the Limited Edition equine sculptures of Debbi LerMond from her HorseModels studio. This is not the same type of plastic used for cheap hollow Easter eggs! Just the opposite! The above photos show two of Debbi’s resin edition sculptures with the Emu egg and of the egg on the rotational casting machine. The resin for the egg was vacuumed before pouring into the mold to insure the cast egg would be bubble free. The model horse on the left has been highly modified from the original resin. The resin horse on the right is pristine white resin.
This is perfect for the egg carvers because it has even better qualities than a real Emu egg. Our hollowcast resin shell is a little thicker than the original emu shell. This allows you to carve deeper adding more dimensional depth. Unlike brittle egg shells, the resin egg has some flex and give. It’s less likely to chip off when carving filigree designs. Another feature where the resin egg excels is the ability to take a bounce!
Since this egg comes out of a 2 part mold, there is a slight seam line around the egg. (See the seam line in the photo enhanced with contrast to make it easier to see.) You could spend many of hours on an real emu egg carving, drop it or chip a piece off and your carving work is history. This is less likely to happen with a resin emu egg! Check the specifications to see why the Amazing Emu Egg is so forgiving.

Can I use my favorite FG-699 bur?
We recommend you use a less aggressive bur by using diamond instead of carbide. Since the hardness of the Amazing Emu Egg is 70D, diamond burs will be more forgiving. The equivalent FG-699 bur in diamond is the DF-10M. Here is a photo comparison of the two burs. FG-699 Left, DF-10M Right. Click on either bur to be taken to the product page.
